Knowing your Skin Type

Hello my lovlies! Understanding your skin type and trying to work out which one you have can be quite difficult and complicated... I've only worked out in the past year what my skin type is. I was treating my skin like dry skin and then i realised it was oily, the exact opposite! This blog post will feature different skin types in order to help you identify which is most like your skin... then i'll talk a bit about how i deal with my oily skin, unfortunately I can't really tell you what would work with dry skin, or sensitive skin, etc. but i'm sure if you looked it up online you'd be able to find some really good products suitable for your skin. I hope in some way this blog is useful.

Thanks for stopping by xoxo

Combination/Normal Skin

This type of skin is what people traditionally have. An oily T zone (forehead, nose and chin) and drier patches around the sides of the nose and on the cheeks. This is also considered to be the healthiest skin type and the easiest to deal with - since it's the most common skin type companies tend to focus more on this as it is guarenteed to sell!

Dry Skin

Dry skin... says it all really! The tell tale signs of dry skin include red patches, itchiness, and flakey skin. This tends to happen with age although anybody can have it. The best way to deal with this skin is plenty of water and a heavy duty moisturiser. For dry skin... powder foundation is not your friend!

Oily Skin

This is my type of skin. It's similar to combination skin on some levels - although instead of having an oily T-Zone, I have an EXTREMELY oily t-zone, as well as my cheeks and around my nose.

Many people go through a stage of having this skin type - usually when going through puberty! My skin caused me great grief when i was in my early teens, I was cursed to grow up with oily skin being my skin type!

Firstly, I use the Botanics face wash, available in boots for £3.99. I'm unsure why, but this face wash just works really well with mines and my mums skin type and makes it least greasy looking. I never ever use a moisturiser with fragrance in it (or make-up remover wipes) as I don't think this benefits my skin type at all. My favourite moisturiser to use is Nivea's pure and natural day cream.

Make-up wise, powder is your best friend when you have oily skin! Throughout the day, the grease comes loose and i get super oily on my T-zone. Any powder will work, it doesn't have to be expensive or fancy. Although personally i use MACs blotting powder at £22.50. I never leave the house without powder and make-up brush.

Once a week i put a face mask specially designed for oily skin. I don't use the same one very often, just pick up what ever i find in the bargain store!

What i'm constantly trying to do with my skin is remove the oil from it - i do that with lightweight moisturisers, blotting pads, powder foundation, etc. Finally, for the first time in a long time i'm really happy with my skin and all the products I use.

Would you like to see a full skin care routine? Let me know if you would

Hope you're having a lovely day :-) xoxox

  1. I swear my skin is different everyday! I'd say it's probably combination but then my nose can just go really dry, so hard to pick the right moisturiser x
