Foundation is a must have in my make-up collection - without it, I don't feel complete. My favourite type of foundation is long lasting and matte finish. I tend to be quite a foundation snob and rarely use lower end foundations but it was two weeks before payday and i was slightly more bronzed than usual - therefore my normal foundation didn't match. I didn't want to break the bank for a quick fix, so i headed into boots and picked up a more inexpensive one...
MAXFACTOR
Face Finity All Day Flawless - 3 in One primer, concealer and foundation
At £11.99 this is a slightly more expensive "low end" foundation - but I'm a big fan of all maxfactor products and i think the price is reasonable for what the product gives you.
This product is available at maxfactor counters in places such as Boots & Superdrug - as well as online. Currently, boots are selling the product at £8.99.
The aim of this foundation is firstly, to combine 3 make-up steps into the one for quickness and efficiency. Personally, i still apply primer before hand and concealer afterwards as i like heavy duty products.
Maxfactors slogan "the make-up of make-up artists" speaks for itself. Maxfactor want to give the same opportunities to normal, non make-up experts by creating simple, yet powerful, affordable products. I think this product does exactly that - especially for make-up shy people that haven't quite got the hang of primers and concealer. This product claims to give an airbrushed, perfected, flawless look to the skin - and it certainly doesn't disappoint.
Because it's summer, i ensure my foundation has SPF in it - this particular foundation has SPF 20.
Why it's my favourite: I love this foundation because it's long lasting and stays matte all day on my skin. The colour range is quite poor though, paler and darker skins may find it difficult to match a colour perfectly. The foundation has lasting power, without feeling cakey and heavy on the face which sells it all to me. This product is a definite 8/10 (two points have been dropped due to the lack of colours!) and I will most definitely be repurchasing.
MAC
Pro-Long wear Foundation
This MAC foundation retails at £25. Pricey? Yes, of course it is. But in the long term - it's an investment worth making. I had one bottle of this foundation for 6 months, yo-yoing my use, with constant use, this lasted me four months. How long it lasts as a product, and the product itself makes £25 seem like an absolute bargain - compared to the more expensive and less worthy high end foundations from companies such as Estee Lauder and Nars.
This product is available at all MAC counters and shops. The nearest MAC counters to me are Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh and Frasers in Glasgow. Also available online but i highly recommend visiting the store before hand to get matched correctly by a make-up artist.
Aim of foundation: The aim of the foundation is to provide long lasting wear - apparently up to 15 hours, although... I've never worn foundation for that long! When using this foundation i usually apply two full pumps of it. The reason for this is that it dries in and becomes unblendable REALLY quickly - which is the only down side to it. We naturally we apply foundation then blend it all together - which doesn't work for this foundation and I continuously forget and therefore waste product.
The thing i most love about this foundation is that it is wearable in all weather conditions - be it cold and snowy or hot and humid. It doesn't melt into my face in the summer, and in the winter, it doesn't stick to dry patches and become flaky. The pro-long wear contains SPF 10. Like all MAC foundations, there is a massive range of colours - which makes finding a perfect match very easy. I awkward this foundation 9/10 - dropped one point because of how fast it sets into the skin!
